Bambuser features several ways of pinpointing your broadcasts geographically.

GPS tagging

We have experimental support for GPS based tagging. First of all you need a S60 3:rd edition phone with built-in GPS or external bluetooth GPS to try it.

Furthermore, it's a separate download. For the time beeing you also need to sign the installation file yourself using Symbian Open Signed Online. We are working on integrating it into the main installer and getting it officially signed. Meanwhile, here's how you currently install the GPS module:

  1. Make sure you have the regular Bambuser broadcast application installed on your phone.
  2. Download the GPS module (.sis) to your computer.
  3. Visit the Symbian Signed website and select "Open Signed Online" on the front page.
  4. Enter your email adress, your phone's IMEI-no / Serial no (use *#06# on a Nokia to find it), select the .sis you downloaded from your hard drive, check the location capability (or all) and fill out the rest of the form...
  5. Check your inbox for a confirmation link. When clicked your file is put in Symbian Signed's process queue.
  6. Check your inbox again after 5 min or so. You should recieve a second email from Symbian Signed containing a link to your signed .sis file. If not, try again at a later point (they are in beta).
  7. Upload the new .sis to your phone and install it as you normally would with S60 applications. (Once installed, it does not show up in your applications menu, but you can uninstall it via the app manager at any point. It identifies itself as "LBS Proxy".)
  8. Launch the Bambuser application and notice the new option "Send position (yes / no)" under Options » Settings

As always when using a GPS, you need to have a bit of patience - it usually takes a little while to get a position and you seldom get position inside buildings. If you have a handset without AGPS out-of-the-box (such as the N95 with 1.0 firmware) we strongly recommend you check if there are firmware upgrades providing this.

Manual tagging

Your videos can also be tagged manually. Log in to bambuser.com and notice the "geotag" tab in the rightmost column when watching a video without a geograpichal location.

Once there, tagging is as easy as dragging an icon across a google map and releasing it where you want to.

Tip: Try using the mouse scroll wheel for zooming.

Automatic tagging based on your default location

You can set a default location for all your videos and have it automatically be the location for all your broadcasts. Visit your profile page to set this up.

This setting does not affect old videos in the archive.

You can always tag individual clips manually, regardless of your home location.

If you are using GPS positioning, it automatically superseeds your home location.

Tip: If you will be streaming several clips from a location other than where you normally hang around, try changing your default location temporarily. This way you don't have to tag each clip individually.
